Millie Bobby Brown Addresses Public Scrutiny Over Her Appearance and Growth
Millie Bobby Brown, the 21-year-old actress, has been lately in the public eye for her slow evolution of appearance and is known for her role as Eleven in Netflix's "Stranger Things."
Millie used an Instagram video to address her critics, who are concerned about her prerogative to mature without judgment.
Growing Up in the Public Eye
Speaking about herself growing up in the entertainment industry from the age of 10, Millie emphasized that she is not the only person watching her childhood spectacle on display. Rather, she expressed her bitterness about individuals whom she perceives as being impossible for an adult to naturally progress from child to man: "I've grown up in front of the world, and for some reason, people can't seem to grow along with me."
Criticism of Media and Writers
The actress directed her criticisms to certain media outlets and writers for their disparaging remarks about her appearance, calling it an act of "bullying." She found it disturbing how adults, even women, would concern themselves so much with analyzing her features. Brown said, "The fact that adult writers are spending their time dissecting my face, my body, my choices, it's disturbing."
Standing Firm and Advocating for Change
Militant, Brown stated that she would not apologize for growing, transforming, or bending away from an unrealistic yardstick for society. She beckoned for kindness, support, and change in society, not for herself only but for all young women who deserve to grow without penalization for merely existing.
Support from Fellow Celebrities
Brown's message has cut across quite a distance and touched hearts, whose legacy can now be seen to be propagating through fans and ten fellow stars. Among the stars, she has dragged along with her praise for her addressing and standing against her unfair treatment along with other young women publicized in such a manner: Sarah Jessica Parker and Aaron Paul.
The Bigger Picture: Scrutiny of Natural Aging
This goes to show the more enormous picture: society scrutinizes and comments on the natural aging and maturation of a being, mostly women, under the limelight. Brown's retort will remind one ever so forcefully of the need to let people grow and change without much ado.
