Puberty In Boys : Mental Health And ADHD

Talking about this topic was necessarily important. Because when it comes to sex education our school books only have two-three pages of information about the symptoms of puberty, when it happens, etc. What about mentally and physically preparing them, how do we know that our kids have properly known about the upcoming changes in their bodies?

Puberty in boys comes with a lot of physical and emotional variations. In our country boys are still living in constant denial at a cost of their golden life period, whereas girls are being 'taught' behind closed doors.

When does it start?

Puberty allows a boy's body to transform into a man's body. An increase in the size of testicles and the growth of hair on genitals are some of the changes that puberty brings. Hormones are mainly responsible for these changes in the body. Testerosone, the main hormone produced by testicles, is the reason for all storms and behavioral patterns in males. It is considered to be normal if happens anywhere between 9 to 15 years.

Stigma and Misguidance

Since boys are never prepared for it so when they first experience a boner, some of them feel weird and some feel strangely pleased about it. When noticing tightening on their penis' skin and a change in length, some boys consider it a disease and fear talking about this. They keep it to themselves and no one in their families notices the pubertal change they go through. The curious talk remains inside the peer circle and they never get to understand the serious issue, which later causes problems in their behavior, and also they often get criticized for it.

Puberty affecting ADHD

Changing testosterone levels in boys during puberty with ADHD(Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) triggers risk-taking behavior and impulsiveness among boys. It troubles concentrating, maintaining patience, and opposite gender attraction.

Gender differences and Mental health

Even in co-ed schools, girls are getting taught about menstruation in separate rooms where no boys are allowed. Opposite gender, different body shapes, and sex education are getting far away from being normalized. Adolescence with puberty without any preparation cause anxiety in teens, they are fighting it with poor mental health and blame themselves at the end of everything.
