Former NFL player Kroy Biermann has filed for divorce from reality TV star Kim Zolciak for the third time, marking another chapter in their turbulent relationship. The couple, known from "The Real Housewives of Atlanta" and "Don't Be Tardy," have faced ongoing financial struggles and custody battles.
Financial Struggles
The two recently sold their Georgia mansion for $2.75 million, a significantly lower amount than their original asking price of $6 million. The sale followed a series of progressively diminishing prices and foreclosure "panic" selling, as an example of the financial vulnerability of the couple. In addition, each has faced lawsuits for failing to make payments, with claims that Zolciak's gambling has landed them in debt.
Custody and Legal Battles
Biermann is pursuing, and is claiming, sole legal and physical custody of the four minor children and has expressed concerns about Zolciak's parenting and spending. Accordingly, Zolciak has asked for Biermann to have a psychotherapeutic evaluation and claims that Biermannâs "antagonistic and emotional outbursts" and the implied potential Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE) of Biermann's career as an NFL football player. Specifically, she has also asserted that Biermann has isolated the children from her and acted in an unfounded manner.
Public and Legal Proceedings
Their public persona as a couple has attracted a great deal of media attention, including accounts of domestic disputes and police contact. For their part, both parties are compelled by the court to attend mediation and are now scheduled to try a case early into the year, with the goal of resolving financial and custody claims.
Ongoing Judicial Proceedings
The judicial proceedings, however, is still directed toward the goal of reaching a settlement based upon what really is in the best interest of the children amidst differences between partners.
