This accomplishment established a new record for feature films shot in non-English languages, surpassing and breaking previous records.

A significant highlight this year is Karla Sofia Gascon's nomination for Best Actress for her role in Emilia Perez, marking her as the first openly transgender performer to receive an acting nomination. Furthermore, Cynthia Erivo's nomination as Best Actress nominee for Wicked makes her one of the first queer Black people who is recognized in this award.
Notable Snubs and Surprises
Notwithstanding the fact that Emilia Perez was nominated several times, it turned out that when the nominees' name was Selena Gomez's name it was not placed in the category Best Supporting Actress, for example. In contrast, Nicole Kidman (Babygirl), Angelina Jolie (Maria), and Pamela Anderson (The Last Showgirl) did not receive an Academy Award nomination despite previous wins.

Ceremony Details
The 2025 Academy Awards will be shown on March 2, 2025, with Conan O'Brien as the host. The service will be broadcast live on ABC and Hulu and it will congratulate all the year's films winners.
