Marrying daughters off as they come to age or even earlier is considered a prior responsibility in Indian families. As they turn 25, they become a burden and the irony is that society has been this much verbal about it that women have gotten used to it. They call them 'tension' while sipping off tea from their cups made by the women of the house. Not every people are like that but most women are facing this without questioning its reasoning. They have been asked to shut their mouths on this matter for a long time. Once they get married, their family becomes done with the responsibility because they already have paid the in-laws. The real question here is do daughters even get to be treated as sons? Then emerges the concerned one. In both cases, the answer is No.
The majority of women do not receive the minimum respect from their families. Humiliation and embarrassment are something they are being reminded of on the daily basis. Be it their own house or in-laws.
Little girls are asked to serve their brothers and help mothers with household chores. This is where it starts, which means not only the in-laws but also parents should be getting blamed for this mistreatment to their daughters. Had they been supportive to their daughters, made them independent, taught them to fight for their rights, and asked about their choice before marrying them off, no one would have dared to disrespect them.
Television dramas have decided not to show any progressive shows and if they ever do end up portraying the woman character who needs the support of a man and then it goes on forever with the toxic love story. And this is what we get to watch while having our dinner. People fear giving place to the daughters in law of their daughters because they have been labeled as "family breakers".
They do everything to show off outside the house saying I have allowed my daughters-in-law to wear Salwar Kameez and not to cover her head because we are the greatest to grant her all of the basic rights.
