Recent events in India as well as in some other corners of the World have flamed up the rage and frustration among the people.
We are talking about the Big No Topic PDA also known as Public display of affection.
Couples holding hands, kissing, and showing any kind of intimacy in street or public places are known as PDA.
In a piece of very recent news from the corner of UP, India husband and wife were seen kissing in the Saryu river, Ayodhya UP. Which boiled over the anger in people around the ghat of the river. They dragged out the husband whilst his wife was trying to protect him and it was all recorded by the crowd standing there. In the viral video, a man can be seen and heard abusing the Husband, and then a few other people joining him.
The mob thrashed and beat up the husband allegedly for kissing and creating obscenity.
What defines Obscenity?
Obscenity varies from place to place according to the culture and social norms of the people who belong there.
In India, the Supreme court have been saying that hugging and kissing between adults in public are legal. Even Under section 294 of the Indian Penal Code, Obscene acts which cause annoyance to the public come under obscenity though it has not been articulated thoroughly and people camouflage their moral policing behind this.
Moral policing and violence of privacy
Not only the people but Police have also been violating and disturbing the personal lives of people. The irony is that couples of same-sex remain uninterrupted and are free to hug that too because of a lack of knowledge about the LGBTQIA+ community.
The logic behind this?
People who beat up the man for kissing his wife called themselves protectors of their culture.
In the name of saving the same culture, they spoke of women-centric abuses whereas they also recognized themselves as a Worshiper of Goddesses of their religion.
Where is the logic? How is any form of intimacy with consent an offense to others? The intimacy which brings people to life, how is that an attack on their culture?
