Many women have thought about using a menstrual cup for their periods but are still sacred and hesitant about it. The reasons are very simple and obvious, they are the circulating myths all over social media and some nut sites. We know it is not easy to replace something that you have been using for 12-13 years, especially when it is about period products. Remember as a teen how we were so particular about our sanitary napkins but then we kept exploring and tried different pads and felt easy. Similarly, menstrual cups are about taking a little step up in using period products. Since a menstrual cup lasts for 8-10 years and is eco-friendly, it can be a good option to say bye to all those expenses every month and avoidable menstrual waste. But first, let's say bye to these fears listed below:
FEAR 1: MENSTRUAL CUPS ARE PAINFUL TO USE
When used for the very first time people can feel a bit of uneasiness and pain while inserting and removing it, but it does not mean that it is always gonna be like that. Sometimes due to the wrong sizes, women don't get to have a good experience with the cups. But after dealing with the right size you will start to love it.
Note: Menstrual cups come in different sizes; small, medium, and large.
Small: Girls who are new to periods to 18 years
Medium: Between 19 to 30 years, who have Normal period flow
Large: Over 30 years and have a heavy flow
FEAR 2: VIRGINS CAN NOT USE IT
Menstrual cups have nothing to do with virginity. Many women get to hear that if you will use a menstrual cup it will break their hymen because they think every woman is born with a hymen and its presence shows that she is a virgin. Let us make sure that some women don't even have a hymen since birth, and many have it stretched during physical activities like cycling or horse riding.
So, women who are virgins can go one size smaller, and when assured they can go for the fit sizes.
FEAR 3: IT IS NOT CONVENIENT TO TRAVELLING
Most women fear using the loo or restroom wearing it whilst traveling. A menstrual cup is easy to sanitize and sterilize even though when you are outside. It comes with a sterilizing container with a lid, all you have to do is pour some hot water in, put your used cup in it, and put on the lid. Keep it for 2-3 minutes and then pat it dry. Cleaning cup wipes are also available if you do not want to carry the container and water, just empty your cup in the toilet and rinse it with water then use a wipe to clean it to reuse but don't forget to sterilize it when reaching home.
FEAR 4: IT CAN GO LOST INSIDE THE VAGINAL CANAL
Menstrual cups take time to learn about insertion and removal and positioning correctly but it does not get lost inside your vagina. When inserting hear the popping of your cup it confirms the right opening of its mouth to your cervix.
